In March of 2010, GRIN, ESW and NSF raised $40,550 towards installing a 16.8kW solar photovoltaic system on the Ford Building. With that $40,550 backing, including a pledge from ISEN, they submitted a strong application to the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation (ICECF) for a $65,000 grant. Following their success, these student groups offered the following testimonial to ISEN:
It has truly been a pleasure and honor working with ISEN. Your support has been so important to our work at GRIN, ESW and NU Sustainability Fund (NSF) from the inception of our groups. With ISEN's help, we've conducted energy audits of six buildings on campus, and are on the verge of having NU's first on site solar panel system. ISEN has truly catalyzed sustainability at NU! A key component of ISEN’s mission is to encourage, financially support and enlarge the scope of energy and sustainability research at Northwestern by faculty and students. ISEN supports this endeavor by awarding grants. In the first year of operation we offered 31 awards in the areas of advocacy, carbon sequestration, climate, efficiency, nuclear, policy, recycling, solar, storage, sustainability, and transportation.
